Vehicles may be considered abandoned if:
- they are parked on the street and have not been moved in three days, or they are parked in the street or in a driveway and are not in operating condition (i.e. has no wheels, no engine, etc.)
- they are parked on dirt or lawn areas
- they are parked and do not have a current license or registration
Vehicles considered abandoned may be towed by the appropriate authority. The information below explains the procedure for reporting abandoned vehicles in your neighborhood. When reporting an abandoned vehicle, be sure to note:
- the location of the vehicle, along with the nearest cross-street
- the vehicle license number
- description of the vehicle
To report an abandoned vehicle in the unincorporated area of Sacramento County, call the County's Community Hazards & Nuisance Complaint Center at (916) 875-5656. Each complaint will be investigated by a Code Enforcement Officer. The registered owner of the vehicles will have three (3) days to remove a vehicle parked on a public street. Vehicles parked on private property must be removed within fourteen (14) days.
To report an abandoned vehicle in the City of Sacramento, call (916) 808-5948. A Code Enforcement Officer will investigate each complaint. The registered owner of the vehicle will have three (3) days to remove a vehicle parked on a public street. Vehicles parked on private property must be removed within ten (10) days.
To report an abandoned vehicle in the City of Elk Grove, submit an online form or call the Elk Grove Police Department, Traffic Bureau at (916) 478-8140. Information on the color and make/model of the vehicle, license plate, and location will be needed. The vehicle must have been at the location for at least 72 hours. Each complaint will be investigated by an Elk Grove Police Department Parking Enforcement Officer.
To report an abandoned vehicle in the City of Galt, submit an online form or call the Galt Police Department at (209) 366-7000. Each complaint will be investigated by either a Code Enforcement Officer or a member of the Galt Police Department Patrol Division. Members of the Patrol Division also routinely investigate any potentially abandoned vehicle spotted while on patrol. The registered owner of the vehicles will have three (3) days to remove a vehicle parked on a public street. Vehicles parked on private property must be removed within ten (10) days.
To report an abandoned vehicle in the City of Folsom, visit the Police Department or call the City's Code Enforcement Office at (916) 355-7281. The registered owner of the vehicles will have three (3) days to remove a vehicle parked on a public street. Vehicles parked on private property must be removed within ten (10) days.
To report an abandoned vehicle in the City of Isleton, visit the Police Department or call (916) 777-7770. Isleton Police officers also look for abandoned vehicles while on daily patrol. The registered owner of the vehicles will have three (3) days to remove a vehicle parked on a public street. Vehicles parked on private property must be removed within ten (10) days.
