Safety, circulation, and accessibility are the focus for Sacramento County Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) South Watt Avenue Improvement Project. The enhancements and upgrades now underway are designed to strengthen the connectivity between area neighborhoods, reduce conflicts between different modes of transportation, and improve travel conditions for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

A major and critical improvement between Florin Road and Jackson Road is the expansion of the roadway from two lanes to four. This means bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicle traffic can share the three-mile corridor reliably, safely, and efficiently.

Measure A project funding approved through the STA Budget process by the public, our partners, an Independent Tax Review Committee, and STA’s Board of Directors will:

• Add 2 through traffic lanes
• Add 6 miles of sidewalks and bike lanes
• Create turn outs for future transit stops
• Improve 5 signalized intersections
• Replace the Morrison Creek Bridge

The ultimate goal of the South Watt Avenue Improvement Project is to:

• Reduce congestion
• Provide long term economic benefit
• Offer additional transportation mode choices
• Improve safety for all road users
• Support planned infill
• Secure a right-of-way for the long-term needs of regional traffic
• Protect water quality with modern storm water management practices
• Investing in long-term transportation projects.
