SACOG Regional Funding Round Training, Part 1: Positioning for Success

The Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA), in partnership with its consultant Jacobs, is providing grant training for Sacramento County, cities, transit providers and others  planning to pursue funding through SACOG’s upcoming Regional Funding Program (federal funding round). This $203 million funding round is the first to include all six counties in the SACOG region, and STA anticipates a highly competitive cycle.

When Measure A was approved by Sacramento County voters in 2004, STA was charged with seeking the maximum available state and federal funding for transportation improvements. Consistent with that mandate, STA is offering this training to strengthen application quality, improve strategic positioning, and increase Sacramento County’s ability to secure a fair share of available funds.

STA anticipates offering two training sessions in March and April 2026:

  • March 19 – Part 1: Positioning for Success — Navigating the SACOG Grant Process (Strategy + Agency Do’s and Don’ts)
An orientation to SACOG’s process for participants who may be less familiar with the Regional Funding Program, with emphasis on how to use each step (including pre-applications) to sharpen project selection, improve readiness, and avoid common pitfalls.
This Part 1 training is tailored to individuals who are determining which projects to advance through the Pre-Application Consultation and beyond. Please forward the invite to those staff.

  • April 16 – Part 2: Nuts and Bolts — Criterion-Focused Grant Writing to Maximize Scores
Practical, criterion-driven guidance on how to respond to SACOG’s evaluation questions, document outcomes, and structure narratives and attachments to maximize scoring.
This Part 2 training is intended for individuals preparing applications. Please forward the invite to those staff.
